Better late than never, I’m finally doing my write-up for week 18 of our 2024 season. Walleye fishing hasn’t been what we are use to this season but we did see some decent fish being caught and released along with a fair amount of 16” to 18” fish during week 18. We had a smaller group of guests the last two weeks but everyone seemed to have some decent fish to report. We had a gang from Michigan that were friends from the “Roost” days and they always catch decent fish even though they only fish about three different spots on the lake. Dave Kohrt was the big winner this week as he released a 22” and a 24” walleye while his buddies watched with envy, especially since Dave is so modest. All our other guests in camp caught walleyes but nothing bigger than Dave’s 24” beauty.
Northern fishing once again saved the day for our guests looking to have a nice fish fry. Most of our guests caught their northern while jig fishing for walleyes in 20’ to 28’ of water. No giant trophies caught this week but plenty of “eaters” in the 24” to 26” range. Mike Mattila caught a chunky 25 1/2” northern but his fish was crushed by the 27” brute that Dave Muhs caught, his fish was good enough for a free hat at the end of the week.
Crappie fishing took a week off this week with most of our guests concentrating on walleye and northern. We did have a giant crappie caught by fishing phenom Marie Fitts, she caught a trophy 14” crappie and claimed her free hat.
Our bass fishing was good for numbers but not for size this week, the biggest reported was caught by Grayson Schoonover, his 15 1/4” was still big enough to win him a hat.
We had over 4” of rain during the week which probably affected the fishing and the storms definitely turned the fish off for a few days. That’s all for week 18, this is Jim from Wabaskang.
