Week 13, 2025 August 9th – 15th

Here we are down to the last five weeks of our season, sorry we are so late on week 13 and week 14 updates but I’m finally getting around to it now. Week 13 was a week of a few showers and thunderstorms but mild temps and light winds. Some days were smoky here but nothing too much out of the ordinary. We are still very dry here and the lake continues to slowly get lower with each passing week, our guests are still getting around the lake no problem and our boat launch is shallow but still manageable. Our guest during week 13 had phenomenal fishing for big walleyes and northern. The bigger fish were being caught in deeper water usually around 20′ to 25′ near rock piles and gravel bars. The key to finding the bigger fish is to find the huge schools of bait fish and then fish the area around them.

Walleye fishing was really good for both eaters and trophies. Carla Mulder was a rookie in camp, but she had the advantage of fishing with my brother “Big Mike” and she happily released her 25″ and 26″ walleye, Mischievous Marty Neihouser is always releasing giant fish and this week he released a chunky 28″ walleye. Tim Wuethrich is always one of the fellas to beat when he is our guest and he had a wonderful week of fishing, his top three walleyes he released were all over 27 1/2″ and were caught mainly on artificial lures. Frank and Sue Cabelinski have been great guests of ours for many seasons. They decided this might be their last trip to camp but Frank sure made it a memorable one. Frank caught and released a 25 1/2″, 27 1/2”, and a giant 28 1/2″ trophy to proudly take home the winning hat and hopefully collect on that free beer his buddy Alan Orr promised him😀

Northern fishing was just as exciting as the walleye fishing this week. Many guests caught giant northern while jig fishing for walleyes and a number if our guests caught the toothy critters trolling giant musky baits over deep water humps and gravel bars. Tim Wuethrich once again showed he hasn’t lost the magic touch when he caught and released a 39″ and 40″ brute, Gaylen Mulder was new to camp, but my brother “Big Mike” put him on a pair of 36 1/2″ northern he released after a quick picture. Marty Neihouser still has a way of finding big trophy northern, probably helped he was fishing with Tim Wuethrich but nevertheless he did catch and release a pair of 40 1/2″ trophy northern as buddy Tim looked on. The biggest northern of the week was caught and released by Carla Mulder, she released a giant 43″ northern to win the camp hat and have bragging rights over her husband Gaylen for the rest of year.

Giant smallmouth bass were released this week by our guests. Many fish were caught in the same areas as the trophy walleyes and on the same tackle, usually a jig and minnow. Once again Tim Wuethrich was the man to beat, he released a chunky 19″ bass and a whopping 20″ bass to easily have bragging rights for the week.

No significant numbers for crappies or perch this week to report.

Remember to have clean and dry boats and live wells before entering Ontario as the border officials are very concerned about invasive species entering Ontario waters. Please remember to get your fishing license before coming to camp as we no longer sell them at camp, Clarks Bait and Tackle in Vermilion Bay or Dutchies General Store in Perrault Falls can take care of your licensing needs. The Whiskey Jack Restaurant is fast becoming the go to spot for our guests for a great meal, Laura and Graham can prepare you a sumptuous meal that will keep you coming back time and time again.

Not much more to say for now, this is Jim from Wabaskang.
