Week 4, 2026 June 6th – 12th

Another great week here at Jim and Julie’s Wabaskang Camp. The water levels on the lake are just about perfect right now so there are no issues getting around on the lake or launching and docking here at camp. We have had some crazy weather this season so far, week 4 saw highs around 90 early in the week and then highs in the 60’s late in the week. We had some very beneficial rains as well, almost 2” during the week so the fire danger now is low. Our guests had good walleye fishing this week, most fish were caught in shallow water wherever you could find a bit of weed growth and current. A 1/16 oz jig tipped with a piece of worm was a great bait as well as soft plastics and sinking crank baits. Dave Schaller was back in camp after missing our opening week and he started things off by catching a chunky 25″ walleye, Tanner Jacob’s caught a beautiful 27 1/2″ walleye. Wade Wiese was a new fella in camp this week, but his 28″ walleye was special to him. The biggest walleye of the week was caught by our friend Jim Voster, his 29″ trophy was the hat winner this week. Of course, all the walleyes over 18″ are all released at Jim and Julie’s so the future of fishing on Wabaskang looks spectacular.

Northern fishing was fast and furious for the pike in the 19″to 26″ range but a bit slow for the trophy sized fish. Crank baits and tube baits were the hot ticket and shallow water was where to be. Once again Dave Shaller was in the mix when he reported catching a giant 40″ pike, his fish was top dog until Chandler Seehusen reported his 38″ and monster 41″ fish, Chandler’s uncle Curt also caught a 38″ pike but too bad so sad not big enough to win the hat. And of course, every pike over 27 1/2″ cannot be kept so all the big girls went back to spawn again next season and produce plenty of smaller fish to keep the lake in great angling condition.

Bass fishing was decent for everyone in camp this week. The big fish are roaming the weed edges but not locked down on their spawning beds and twister tails or crank baits worked great all week long. Quinn Edeker caught a chunky 18″ bass, Lance Petrasek caught a feisty 19″ bass. Our big winner of the week was Sam Wilson, he reported not one but three bass of 19 1/2″ that won him a hat that he willingly gave to his special gal Hannah, she seemed impressed❤️

No giant crappies to report just your average 12″.

Next week looks cool and wet which is just fine with us. Remember to have your licenses before arriving at camp and bring us a copy to keep on file as well.

You can purchase your license at Clark’s Bait and Tackle in Vermilion Bay or Dutchies General Store in Perrault Falls. The Whiskey Jack Restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday so plan a meal or two out there if you’re looking for great barbecue and sandwiches along with a cold adult beverage.

That is it for now, this is Jim from Wabaskang.

Our guests had decent walleye fishing,… Continue Reading

Week 18, 2025 September 13th – 19th

Another late update from Jim and Julie’s Wabaskang Camp. The incredibly mild September weather continues with daytime temperatures in the 70’s and nighttime lows in the 50’s. We still haven’t seen frost here and no cold weather is in the long-term forecast. The lake is lower each week but luckily, we only have two weeks… Continue Reading

We are still experiencing some smoky days here, especially on days when the wind is… Continue Reading
