Another week has passed us by here at Jim and Julies Wabaskang Camp. Week 12 of our season saw plenty of action for medium sized fish along with an occasional trophy. Our walleye fishing continues to be tough on some days and great on others. Most of the big fish are being caught in 18’ of water or deeper. The best bait by far is a jig and minnow combination. The eater sized walleyes are still roaming the weed patches and will hit a crank bait, minnow rig, crawler rig or even a small spoon. Krystal Parker started things off this week when she landed a beautiful 21” walleye, the “Admiral” Dave Fober has plenty of years here at Wabaskang Camp and he came through again this season by catching a chunky 24” walleye, Mike Stark jumped on the leader board when he landed a 25” brute, the biggest walleye of the week was caught by super-angler Bob Westerman, he caught and released a beautiful 28 1/4” fish to take home top honors for the week. Our northern fishing was a bit slow last week but we did see some trophy fish being caught and released. Mark Fober had a great week and he was proud of the 36” northern he released, Krystal Parker release a chunky 36 1/2” northern, Ed Taylor has a reputation around this neck of the woods as the man to beat when it comes to big northern, his best was a nice 37” fish he caught and released in deep water across from camp. The top northern of the week was caught by young Grace Fober, she hooked into a 38” monster on a big musky bait also while trolling deep water, she released her trophy after a few quick pictures. Bass fishing was good this week with most fish being caught on rock piles and weed lines, Kevin Parker caught and released a gigantic 19” bass to easily win first place for the week. Young Tristan Fober kept the Fober name on the board when he landed the biggest crappie of the week, a chunky 11 1/2” slab, great job! Next week looks like cooler weather and less storms so we should see some improvement in size and numbers on all our fish species. Remember you can always grab your license before you get here, you can run just up the road to Dutchies or Rainbow Point Store and they will fix you up. The Whiskey Jack Restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday and they have the best food around, stop in and enjoy a great pizza or sandwich and let someone else do the cooking. For now, this is Jim from Wabaskang
