Week 17, 2019 September 7th – 13th

Another week has passed us by here at Jim and Julie’s Wabaskang Camp. Week 17 of our season was a week of cool temperatures and plenty of rain. Our guests this week found plenty of walleyes in deep water. The average depth being fished was around 27’ or a bit deeper. The best bite seemed to be on a simple jig and minnow combination or a Lindy Rig and crawler or minnow. We had plenty of trophy fish caught this week along with all the eaters a person could ask for. Tim Wuethrich started things off with a chunky 22 1/2” walleye he released, Mike Dufel found time to catch and released a 26” walleye when he wasn’t keeping an eye on his father Larry, Larry Willms released a 26 1/4” only to see Scott Willms release a massive 27” fish, Bill Hyde caught and released a beautiful 27 1/2” walleye and it was his first trip to camp, Marty Neihouser landed a beautiful 27 1/2” only to see James Tanury catch a 28” brute and take home top honors for the week. Our northern fishing continues to be at its best when you are walleye fishing. The big northern are hanging out in deep water along with the walleyes and are eager to grab a jig and minnow as it passes by. Steve Young started things off with a chunky 36” northern and later in the week caught and released a 37” brute and a 38 1/4” fish, Tim Wuethrich released a 37” northern, his biggest of the week, Marty Neihouser released a 38 1/2” northern, Bill Hyde was a rookie in camp but he didn’t show it, he landed and released a 38” northern that made his new buddy Larry Jaske very envious, the biggest northern of the week was caught and released by the great Scott Willms, he always catches big fish and this week was no exception, he released a massive 41” torpedo to easily crush the so called competition in camp, great job Scott. Bass fishing was hit and miss this week but we did see some very big fish being caught both in deep water and shallower water next to the weeds. Once again Tim Wuethrich started things off when he landed and released a chunky 18” bass, Bill Hyde made the board this week on all three major species of fish in the lake, his 16 1/2” bass was caught early in the week and made the board before it was quickly crushed by Steve Youngs 17” bass, Raen Schechinger was new to camp but he quickly climbed to the top of the leader board when he caught a nice 18 1/2” bass, the biggest bass of the week was caught by Jim White, Jim has been coming to camp since the beginning of time and his 19” bass was tops for the week, see you next season Jim.  To our guests traveling up for next week’s fishing trip consider taking the west route through Nester Falls because there is still extensive road construction on highway 502.  That’s all for now, this is Jim from Wabaskang.
