Week 19, 2024 September 21st – 27th

Finally, I get to write about the last fishing week of the season. Week 19 had a small group of guests in camp but they certainly had a great time fishing. The weather has been very warm all season and this week was no exception, many days our guests could fish in tee shirts and shorts if they wanted to. Most of the walleye action was on Big Wabby with our guests using a Lindy Rig and giant minnow or a jig and minnow combination. The fish were easy to locate but were hard to catch and a giant minnow seemed to be the best way to entice a bite.  Scott Sorenson was able to put up with his fishing buddy Fred Meier long enough to catch and release a 22″ and 24″ walleye.  Fred Meier did manage to release a chunky 24″ walleye, not big by his standards but decent considering the slow walleye bite.  Rick Peterson was the big winner of the week; his Lindy Rig and giant minnow combination caught him a chunky 25″ walleye which won him a camp hat.

Crappie fishing was fantastic this week especially on the south end of the lake. Tiny jigs and minnows or a piece of gulp worked well especially early mornings and late evenings. The biggest crappie reported this week was caught by Rick Peterson, he landed a 14 1/2″ trophy.

Northern fishing slowed this week with only a handful of decent fish being reported.  Josh Meier released a pair of 32″ brutes to easily win top honors for the week.

Julie and I are beginning to shut things down here now and we might slip out to do a little fishing if the weather stays nice. That’s all for now this is Jim from Wabaskang.
