Hello again from Jim and Julies Wabaskang Camp. Week number 8 of our season has come and gone with plenty of great memories made buy our guests and some decent fish to talk about. Northern fishing has slowed some with the very hot temperatures we have been experiencing. Some days we saw temperatures over 90 degrees and not much relief at night. The water has warmed to the mid to upper 70’s and the bigger fish are hiding down under the thick cabbage weeds or are moving off to deep water. The northern bite was tough for the bigger fish, crank baits, spoons, and tube baits all produced a few fish. Randy Adams released a chunky 30” northern that was quickly topped by his skillful wife Joyce, she released a 36 1/2” brute that was the biggest northern caught by our guests in camp this week, great job Joyce, you win a free hat but I think we forgot to let you pick one out—–we will do it next season. Colton, Brandon, and Kenny Schroeder all caught some decent northern this week, all three each had fish 36” long, I wonder if they just passed the same fish from person to person to get the pictures? Walleye fishing was decent if you fished 10’ next to the weeds, spinner rigs and jigs were the best bait to use. Alex Katz caught a 23” walleye, Tim Raner released a 21 1/2” walleye. we had plenty of eater sized walleyes caught but Alex’s 23” walleye was the biggest this week. Bass fishing was spotty due to the heat as well, top water baits worked well as did spinner baits and crank baits, the biggest bass of the week was caught and released by Mark Benson, he released a18” brute to win the free hat. Next week looks like more hot and windy weather but hopefully the fish will decide to cooperate a little better. We are having problems with our licensing computer and printer and are waiting for new equipment to arrive so please get your fishing license online or pick it up at a tackle shop on the way to camp, Dutchies General Store just a mile or so up the road from our camp can fix you up with everything from fishing tackle and bait to groceries and beverages as well as plenty of nifty gifts to take home.
