Week 19, 2018 September 22nd – 28th

Well another great season here at Jim and Julies Wabaskang Camp has come and gone. Week 19 was a week with snow, wind, rain, and cold temperatures. Our guests caught decent fish but each fish was well earned. The walleye bite has moved deep now and most decent fish were caught in water over 28’ deep. A jig and minnow or Lindy Rig and minnow were the best approach to use. Our guests would leave the dock each morning warm and dry but return every evening cold and sometime wet. Fred Meier is a seasoned veteran of late September fishing but he remarked he had never seen a week like this one! Fred did release a chunky 24 1/2” walleye, his buddy Bob Friendshuh also released a 24 1/2” walleye and a beautiful 26” walleye. Northern fishing was decent if the wind would cooperate, our guests had to fight high waves which made trolling for the big brutes almost impossible. Scott Sorenson released a 35” northern, Fred Friendshuh released a 35” and a 36” northern. Scott Sorenson had the smallest and the largest bass of the week, he released a 2” largemouth bass he actually caught while fishing in Keynote Lake, a few days later he released a nice 18” smallmouth bass he caught fishing deep water on the big lake. It was hard to say goodbye to our guests this season but we are looking forward to seeing all of you again next year. We will be making some camp videos as we close camp and begin some late season projects, for now this is Jim from Wabaskang.
